The position
Qualifications/Skills Needed
Cabin Counselor & Activity Instructors care for a cabin with 8-12 campers and 2-3 co-counselors as well as teaching activities during the day. A counselor’s main responsibility is overseeing his campers’ well-being and happiness, while also fostering friendships in his cabin, and at activities.
Training provided
Two weeks of staff training provided.
About the camp
North Star is a premier residential boys summer camp in Northern Wisconsin. Since 1945, we've been providing meaningful summer experiences for campers and staff from all over the world. We're looking for the best staff, those who want to make a difference and ensure that their campers and fellow staff members have an amazing experience in our community. We provide a diverse program with athletics, watersports, arts and adventure activities as well as a top notch wilderness trip program. Each week our campers are able to select from over 40 different activities within those program areas. Each summer we hire approximately 130 staff from all over the US and abroad. In 2025 we hired approximately 50 international staff and in 2026, the majority of them will be returning! We are a traditional camp but progressive as well. We are always seeking to grow as a community, and often times that growth comes from new staff who are excited to add there ideas and energy to the North Star family.

The area
North Star is located 12 miles from the town of Hayward, WI. Hayward has shops, restaurants and basic attractions. We are just over an hour from Duluth, MN which has malls, beaches and other attractions for time off. Our closest major city is Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Twins baseball club and the Mall of America. Minneapolis has a major international airport. The Northwoods of Wisconsin, where we are located is a fantastic balance of beautiful outdoors with towering pine trees, rivers and lakes as well as great recreational opportunities. Go to a beach, tube down the Namekagon river, play a round of golf or get a good meal at one of our area's many restaurants.

Where you'll stay
Counselors live in a cabin with the kids that they are working with. Each cabin has two living spaces, one for the kids and one for the counselors. Cabins have electricity and each counselor has a bed and storage for their clothing.

Compensation & benefits
Pocket money per agency, room, board and transportation between camp and airport. Camp will also cover costs of certification courses (lifeguard, belay, etc)
